GOODBYE SUNSHINE

It is with a heavy heart we inform you that Sunshine Radio is to close today.

The station has been struggling since 2017 when a board of directors, consisting of staff and seasoned professionals, were in place to operate the radio station. Those seven directors, with their intimate knowledge of Sunshine Radio and extensive business experience, were working to continue and grow the service.

However some shareholders, for their own personal reasons, dismissed the entire board in an illegal hostile take-over and appointed themselves as the sole directors. This takeover is the subject of on-going court action.

Neither of the new directors had any significant experience in operating a radio station. Neither director made any investment whatsoever in the station. The remaining staff were left to run Sunshine Radio on a shoestring.

Since their self-appointment these directors have been accused of fraud, one has left the State owing thousands with a warrant issued for her arrest and the station manager is appearing on related criminal charges at Paphos Court.

What started as a dream in 2013 to serve so many of our English speaking community and the local business community in Paphos has been destroyed.

We are the board who were dismissed and we believe the closure of Sunshine Radio was completely avoidable.

We are considering an online version of Sunshine Radio and potentially regaining the broadcast licence. If you would like to join us in this re-birth, message or email us.

For now, while our heavy hearts are broken, we just wanted you to know there are two sides to every story.

Thank you.
